What are some of the most common reasons for a fall in the home? The normal changes of aging, like poor eyesight or poor hearing, can make seniors more likely to fall. Illnesses and physical conditions can affect strength and balance. Poor lighting or throw rugs in the home make a trip or slip much more likely. Additionally, the side effects of some medicines, such as those prescribed for depression, sleep problems and high blood pressure, can upset balance. Some medicines for diabetes and heart conditions can also make some people unsteady on their feet.
